Turmeric has been used in the treatment of liver diseases for centuries, and studies in the last two decades have shown the same potential of this spice.

Researchers have discovered that its powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects effectively reduce liver damage due to various reasons, including iron overdose, high toxicity levels, ethanol (which is the type of alcohol that you drink), liver disease (like cholestasis), cirrhosis (scarring of the liver).

They have also found that turmeric lowers the risk of liver cancer, as it lowers the detrimental effects of the human carcinogens (such as thioacetamide) on the liver.

On the other hand, experts have only recently found that turmeric has a beneficial effect on brain health as well.

Namely, its active ingredient, curcumin, treats Alzheimer’s disease, by inhibiting the buildup of beta-amyloid plaques, which is one of the primary causes of this condition, by a whopping 40%.

Moreover, its anti-inflammatory properties reduce the damage caused by inflammation and oxidizing agents. Some researchers have also found that turmeric might offer excellent effects in the treatment of depression as well.
